Even from a few feet away, you can see the bold strokes that Sao Paulo artist Roberto Lautert applies to his portraits of iconic art figures, but step closer and you’ll notice that brush lines are strangely missing. That’s because there were no brushes—these works are enlarged versions of the portraits Lautert “paints” by fingertip on his iPhone 3G, using the Finger Draw app. The pieces are currently on display at Loja do Bispo in Sao Paulo in his first-ever solo show.

Starting tomorrow, attendees of this year’s ArtPadSF in San Francisco will be able to peruse the wares of participating galleries, curators, and exhibitors. Those heading over to the iconic Phoenix Hotel (site of Mars-1 public mural) for the event should make sure to stop by the booth of our friends at Spoke Art as they will be displaying new works fromScott Scheidly entitled Portraits : a series of “fabulous” depictions of tyrants, dictators and popes. This title is should be pretty self-explanatory and you should expect a series of provocative and unusual portraits that many find hilarious.

Additionally,first in a series of print editions of Scheidlyʼs work at the fair, starting with a fine art edition of the artistʼs previous Hitler painting will be available. This limited edition Hitler print measures 11” x 14”, comes in a custom painted hot pink frame, and is limited to a signed and numbered edition of 20. Paintings and prints will be available first to attendees of the fair, with any unsold pieces available online via the Spoke Art website afterwards.

Type City is a recent artwork by artist Hong Seon Jang that uses pieces of movable type from a printing press to create an elaborate cityscape. Jang also completed a much larger Type City in 2009.
